Home About Us Learning Student Showcase Community Reptile Atrium Calendar

Heany Park Primary School was established in 1993 and is proud of the exceptional educational program it provides for children in the local Rowville community. The school enrolment is over 600 with 29 classes and has stabilised in recent years after a decade of rapid growth. Students are generally grouped in straight classes, with four or five classes at each grade level, and grade sizes are kept to a minimum.  The student population reflects a diversity of nationalities, which provides a breadth of cultural experience and acceptance of others.

The school’s modern facilities and equipment are outstanding with a well equipped gymnasium, music room, Indonesian program, library, an ICT Learning Centre and computer pods adjacent to classrooms.  All teaching spaces are heated and cooled.  Extensive work has been undertaken to further develop and enhance the school’s grounds. This includes the recent completion of paving and the establishment of a native garden at the front entrance of the school and Friendship seats at the rear of the library and art rooms. Currently, the school is undergoing building works to allow for more permanent classrooms and will be completed at the end of 2010.

The school has ample playing space for all students including two adventure playgrounds, shade sails, two basketball courts, a school oval and access to the adjoining municipal oval. The school community prides itself on maintaining and improving these facilities through cooperative effort. Parents and guardians are encouraged to share in a partnership with a focus on developing positive educational outcomes for their children.  They are welcomed in classrooms and participate in a wide range of school activities.

The school gives priority to providing core skills in Literacy and Numeracy, as well as a broad education including emphasis on e-Learning (ICT), The Arts, Science, Technology, Health and Physical Education.  The Reptile Atrium Project is a major feature of the school. The staff at Heany Park are committed to encouraging all students to strive for excellence in a supportive environment, which recognises individual differences and different rates and styles of learning. Heany Park Primary School has a strong reputation in the local community for providing a very caring and supportive environment for students and families.  Program Achieve (You Can Do It) allows students to develop behavioural skills in Getting Along, Persistence, Organisation, Confidence and Resilience. All staff share a commitment to the well-defined and articulated values of: respect, integrity, teamwork and life long learning.

Greetings

By now you should have received a ballot paper regarding elections for the parent members of School Council.  We have five parents who have nominated for four positions.  It is pleasing to have such a strong level of interest from our parents, taking advantage of the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the governance of our school.   Given the calibre of all candidates, I feel confident that any choice you make will be a positive one.  I encourage you to read all the candidate statements to assist you in making your decision. Please note that all ballot papers must be returned by 4:00pm next Wednesday 17th March.

I hope you managed to survive the recent storm with minimal damage to your property and person.  Unfortunately we didn’t fare well at school, with all our skylights destroyed by the hail and the subsequent water entry ruining carpet, paintwork, school resources and damaging the gym floor.  Restoration works are underway, but may take at least two months to complete.  Hopefully significant works can be completed over the school holidays, thereby minimising the interruption to our school programs.

Our staff has been fantastic, demonstrating a great deal of flexibility in working under trying conditions, supporting each other and ensuring the continuation of our effective teaching and learning program.

I would like to make special mention of Andrew Williams (SC President) and Tim Landells, two of our parents who spent Saturday afternoon/early evening with me attempting to minimise the damage to our school.  Their support was, and is, much appreciated.

Many thanks also to the families who attended on Monday morning to clean up the debris in preparation for school on Tuesday.  Your support is also appreciated.

Regards,
David Rose
